Once the site of lavish coronations, today Bratislava is a cozy and hospitable capital; its center can be crossed on foot in a few minutes. Sightseeing excursions here, as a rule, start from the Old Town; its center is the Main square. 1001guide recommends visiting the Cathedral of Saint Martin, the place where Maria Theresa was crowned. The further excursion route lies through the Old Town Hall and the monumental Bratislava Castle. There are two museums at once inside it - the Historical and the Slovak National Museum. You can inspect the exposition on your own, or you can order an excursion with a English-speaking guide. Another favorite place for tourists is the Bratislava New Bridge, known as the SNP Bridge. After rising to its observation deck, you can not only enjoy the panorama of the city but also dine at a local restaurant; however, the cost of such a dinner will definitely include a surcharge for a beautiful view. Restaurants and cafes in Bratislava are famous for their democratic prices; the only exception is the authentic establishments of the Old Town.
